BLAKE / BIOGRAPHY
BLAKE | Principal Photographer, XIANG STUDIO
Born in Kaohsiung in 1978 and trained in architecture, BLAKE began photography in 1998. Early portrait and product work developed into a practice shaped by an architectural understanding of space.
The practice moved to digital imaging around 2003. Certification in colour management from Taiwan's Printing Technology Research Institute complements years of commercial work and a sensitivity to light, material and colour.

THE PRACTICE
Proportion, structure and circulation guide images that communicate the logic of design.
Observe daylight and existing illumination to preserve a space's colour, material and atmosphere.
Colour management, architectural photography, drone imagery and video expand the ways a project can be seen.
COLOUR MANAGEMENT / FROM CAPTURE TO PRINT
The warmth of timber, the grey of stone and the signature colour of a product deserve careful reproduction. For BLAKE, colour management is part of photography: understanding the light on location, evaluating colour in post-production, and preparing images for display and print through professional judgement supported by instrument measurements.
Colour measurement instruments support monitor calibration and the creation of monitor ICC profiles. This provides a consistent reference for evaluating whites, neutral tones, skin and materials during editing.
BLAKE creates colour profiles for monitors and printers, taking the equipment, paper and ink combination into account. A managed workflow connects image files with output conditions to reduce controllable differences between media.
Interior lighting, window daylight and reflected colour each affect a photograph. Correcting colour casts while retaining tonal depth preserves the character of a space and the intended appearance of a product.
Holding a colour management certificate issued by the Taiwan Printing Research Institute, BLAKE has participated in digital imaging and colour management events associated with KODAK, NIKON, OLYMPUS, EPSON, HP, APPLE, EIZO, X-Rite and Datacolor. This understanding of capture, display and output informs both the photographs and their delivery.
